What We Believe
Our vision is to exist to glorify God by making gospel-transformed disciples of all people, in our city, and in the world.
Scripture
The Bible is God’s divine Word written and recorded by human authors under the direct supervision of God without error in their original writings, containing the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of man along with the divine and authoritative teachings for Christian faith and life.
God As Triune
There is one God, eternally existing in three Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each fully God and of the same divine essence.
The Father is the Creator of the heavens and the earth. The Father begets the Son and sends the Spirit.
Jesus Christ is the Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, and of the same essence as the Father. The Son is fully human and fully divine, united within the single person.
The Spirit maintains His own personhood and deity as the third person of the Trinity.
Humanity
Man was created in God’s image in the form of two sexes (male and female) without sin.
God is the author of marriage according to the teachings of the Bible. Marriage is to be defined as between one man and one woman.
All of humanity is fallen because of the entrance of sin through Adam. Man is totally lost and separated (presently and eternally) from God, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition.
Salvation
Humanity is ultimately restored through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has brought us from death to life. Salvation from our fallen state is found in the grace of God and received through faith alone.
There will be a bodily resurrection of all people, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment. Christ’s return is imminent, at which time He will gather the elect, both those alive and dead in Christ, and transform them with resurrected bodies like Him who is the firstfruits from the dead.
Church
The Church universal is expressed in local churches - a group of believers in a particular location - where these members not only attend services, but are active members of Christ’s body which is called to make disciples in this world. Local churches are the gathering of God’s people, the household of God, the bride of Christ, and the body of Christ.
Baptism
Baptism is a symbol of what Christ has done through his death and resurrection. Just as Christ died and rose from the dead, baptism symbolizes that we die with Christ and are raised to new life in Christ! It signifies that your former way of life has been put to death and you are now released from the power of sin. (Rom. 6:1-11)
In obedience to Christ's command and as a testimony to God, the Church, and the world, a believer should be immersed in water in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matt. 28:19).
Membership
Becoming a member at Sunset Church means becoming a part of our spiritual family by making a public promise to live according to the Word and to support the vision and mission of the church. The Bible calls this a covenant. It is the means to hold both members and its leadership accountable to walk in a manner pleasing to God as a witness to the truth of Christ in the world.
Church membership is not like membership of a country club where members are consumers of the organization. The Bible tells us that the Church is a body where all its members are connected (1 Corinthians 12:12). Church membership entails becoming and committing to be a part of the body that will love and care for one another’s faithfulness to Christ.
